It had a variety of content including events in his life, events in Pakistan, and events in the world. It had many pages of poetry in Urdu – probably the majority of the diary. The most interest part of the diary though were the sections of general knowledge where he just wrote facts. I have included pictures below:

I’m not as good as I should be about reaching out to friends and family on Eid and wishing them an Eid Mubarak.  On 9/16, almost a week after Eid, Baqer Mamoo sent me the following text (on the right is the same message w/ date and time showing):


I’m not sure what my reply was because I don’t save my outgoing text messages.  But I think it was along the lines of Eid Mubarak to you too and I gave him a heads up that I was planning on coming to Miami in December for a week.

His reply came the next morning:

]]> http://baqerali.com/my-last-correspondence-with-baqer-mamoo-an-eid-mubarak/feed/ 0 Gift-giving http://baqerali.com/gift-giving/ http://baqerali.com/gift-giving/#comments Sun, 14 Nov 2010 05:31:02 +0000 Shahryar http://baqerali.com/?p=110 When it came to giving gifts, Baqer Mamoo was on a different level.  This was yet another extension of his loving personality and as Baqer mamoo always gave amazing gifts.  My earliest memories are of Nintendo games, both when I was here and he visited or when I Was in Miami.  There was also clothes, cologne – all very nice items.  Everybody he saw was to receive a gift and I imagine him and Batool Auntie just spending so much time shopping before visiting to make sure they had something nice for everyone.

My favorite Baqer mamoo gift giving story is actually through my cousin Zehra.  She sent this to me in an e-mail the morning after his death when I was in Miami:

I keep thinking to the first Eid I remember in this country and that Baqar mamoo gave us all coin banks and he got me a music box with a ballerina. It’s the Eid I remember the most. It’s because of that I give gifts instead of money on Eid to Aiza, Hasan and Seher.

On Baqar Mamoo’s last visit to Maryland in the summer of 2010, one the gifts given to me from him, Batool Auntie, Raza and Taha was a remote control model of my car.  I had wanted my car for a while and was really excited about it when I finally got it in 2009.  I showed it to Baqer Mamoo of course when he visited.  The morning after I received this from Baqer Mamoo and Batool Auntie, I took a picture and put it on Facebook.
Batool Auntie of course liked the picture on Facebook, and if I’m not mistaken, showed Baqer Mamoo.
